The work of Dave Sim is to be featured as part of a gallery display at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. No confirmation on dates, and the museum is in the process of aquiring the necessary pages (reportedly from High Society and Church & State Vol 1), but I suspect it will be part of the upcoming:

A burgeoning art form with roots planted firmly in history, graphic novels, or long-form comic books, have begun to gain the interest of the literary establishment. But for many of today's younger readers, graphic novels, with their antiheroes and visual appeal to the image literate, are positioned to usurp the role that the novel once played. Focused on subjects as diverse as the nature of relationships, the perils of war, and the meaning of life, graphic novels now comprise the fastest-growing sections of many bookstores – an accessible, vernacular art form with mass appeal. This hallmark exhibition explores the art and history of the graphic novel offering commentary and original works by the field's most celebrated historic and contemporary practitioners including Brian Fies, Marc Hempel, Mark Kalesniko, Peter Kuper, Lynd Ward, and many others.

Dave, having recovered partially from his flu symptoms, has resumed his live Sunday Scriptural Readings.
DVDs of past readings can be purchased on eBay, and are fully endorsed and proceeds benefit a local food bank.

Effective
as of December 31st, 2006 Gerhard has parted ways with
Aardvark-Vanaheim and long time partner Dave Sim.
Dave is still in the
process of gathering the funds necessary to buy
out Gerhard's 40% share of the company, but this will not affect the
publication of future Cerebus volumes or, presumably, Following
Cerebus (which is experiencing its own in-house delays at Win-Mill
Productions). In fact, the proofs are in for the fourth printing of
Form & Void and soon we will see the first Cerebus book *not*
printed by Preney Press.
As a result of the
split, Gerhard will not be attending the SPACE
convention in Columbus, OH this year.

– Night Flight Comics is pleased to announce an
upcoming exhibition of over seventy original pages from the
groundbreaking independent comic book series, Cerebus. ‘Ye Bookes
of
Cerebus: the Comic Art of Dave Sim and Gerhard’ officially opens
on
Monday, August 21st 2006 at 9:00 a.m. Thirty-five of the original art
pieces will be on display at The City Library main branch lower urban
room, with the rest of the exhibit at both Night Flight Comics locations
and will remain on display through October 30, 2006. An artist’s
reading, Q&A, autograph session and gallery walk on Friday, October
27th
2006 starting at 1:00 p.m. At the event, Dave Sim will discuss the
Cerebus project, his massive 26-year long, 300-issue publishing history,
and the religious themes that make up the core of the exhibition.
Background artist Gerhard will also be discussing his work on the
series, the intricately detailed backgrounds that create the
extraordinarily realistic world in which the series takes place.
Cerebus was the longest
running independent comic ever published. At six
thousand pages in length, it is the single longest graphic novel in the
comic book medium; arguably, the longest sustained narrative in human
history. Over seventy pages from this remarkable, and sometimes
controversial, work will be on display, focusing on many of the
religious themes that highlighted the later years of the book and
culminating with a dramatic and unique retelling of the Story of Creation.
The series began
in December of 1977 as a parody of the popular Conan
the Barbarian comic. Sim quickly evolved as a writer and storyteller and
began to tackle larger themes such as politics, religion, gender
relations, and creator’s rights. At the same time, the artwork of
Sim
and background artist Gerhard was consistently some of the best in the
medium and garnered numerous awards. Most recently, Sim and Gerhard won
the 2005 Shuster Award (named after Superman co-creator Joe Shuster) for
Best Canadian Achievement in Comics for the Cerebus project.
By the time the series
ended in March 2004, Sim and Gerhard had worked
together for over two hundred issues of Cerebus, an unprecedented
achievement that more than doubled the one hundred issues of The
Fantastic Four created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1960s.
This exhibition is
organized with curator for the Regina A. Quick Center
for the Arts, St. Bonaventure University Jason Trimmer and will feature
work from three of the sixteen books that make up the entirety of the
Cerebus series – Rick’s Story, Latter Days, and The Last Day.
All of
these pages showcase one of the most unique properties of the comic
medium, which is its equal emphasis on words and pictures working
together. As writers and artists began to explore more mature subject
matter in comic books, starting in the mid-seventies, they also began
to
explore the dynamics between how the words and pictures on a page
interact and affect the reader. For more than twenty years, Sim and
Gerhard have been among the preeminent innovators of this dynamic in the
comic book medium and the pages on display reflect several different
approaches they have taken.
Combining stylistic
innovation, humor, and the revelations offered by
one man’s intensely personal spiritual journey, ‘Ye Bookes of
Cerebus:
The Comic Art of Dave Sim and Gerhard’ promises to be a unique and
thought-provoking experience.
